Plan an amazing trip to Bonaire
Bathed in the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea, the island of Bonaire, off the coast of Venezuela, is a former Dutch colony. The island is an idyllic setting for diving enthusiasts and nature lovers. The waters surrounding the island are protected by one of the Caribbean’s most beautiful nature reserves, making it one of the world’s most popular diving destinations. The coral reef and lagoon provide shelter for countless species of tropical fish, each as colourful as the next. There are also dolphins, sea horses, sea turtles and barracudas.
A pioneer in nature conservation, Bonaire can also be explored on foot. You can discover a great number of endemic species, such as parrots, iguana and pink flamingoes the length of the island’s dunes, salt lakes, forests and mangroves in the 5,800 hectare Washington-Slagbaai National Park.
Kralendijk, the island’s only town, has old houses, their walls and roofs traditionally painted yellow, pink or green. Don’t miss a trip to Boca Omina where you can admire wall paintings attributed to the Arawak peoples.
Equally, Bonaire is a place to enjoy its fine sandy beaches and clear water where you can relax on holiday in the shade of coconut palms.
