When to go to Nigeria?

Nigeria offers a tropical climate which is generally humid, but which becomes more and more arid as you head further north in the country. Temperatures stay very stable all throughout the year with an average of 28°C in Lagos during the day, for example. It should be noted however that there is a large variation in day and night temperatures in the northern hills. The African monsoon means that the period from April to October is synonymous with the rain season, whereas the rest of the year has a very good amount of sunshine with low rainfall.

Famous for its national parks such as Cross River, Brass Island, or its Zuma Rock, Nigeria is a destination which is completely synonymous with discovering wildlife, hiking in the heart of spectacular landscapes, and being immersed in the local art and culture. The climate is responsible for a large part of its resources.
Nigeria in fact has two very distinct seasons:
the dry season, from November to March, results in a high amount of sunshine (8 to 9 hours of sun per day) and rare showers (from 13 to 41mm of rain depending on the month). To make best use of the Nigerian beaches, you should plan your trip in this season.
The rain season, particularly intense in the south of the country (Calabar, Lagos), stretches from April to October. Its significance is more relative in the north (Kano, Katsina, Sokoto) where it only lasts from June to September. The temperatures are not impacted because it still stays at a warm 30°C in June, July and August. The amount of sun proves to be weaker in this season, with 5 hours of daily sun in July and August. The very wet month of June holds the annual record with 316mm of rain compared to 13 and 15mm in January and December.

June and July prove to be the rainiest months whereas July and August are the least appealing months for sunshine. It will therefore be more enjoyable for you to plan a trip to Nigeria outside of these 3 months. Conversely, January and February possess the best weather conditions; there are 9 hours of daily sunshine, virtually non-existent rain, and more than 20 days of sunshine over the course of the month.
