When to go to Barbados?
As with several Caribbean islands, Barbados enjoys a tropical climate made up of two seasons ; a dry season which is summer, and a wet season, with much more frequent rainfall. Temperatures nevertheless remain consistent during these two seasons, rising on average to around 30-31°C from January to December.
The rain season mainly starts in June and ends in November, a month where there is a peak amount of rainfall. Rain does in fact increase between September and November, especially at the end of the day, but there is still a large amount of sunshine. The island is also rarely hit by hurricanes. Despite the humidity, temperatures stay high at around 30-31°C for maximum temperatures and around the 25°C mark for minimum temperatures. Swimming continues to be particularly enjoyable in water temperatures which can easily reach 29°C.
The dry season is from December to April, which are the most appropriate months to take advantage of the beaches which are lined with coconut trees. It is a time to go surfing or scuba diving in search of incredible coral reefs, or even to visit the capital of Bridgetown and the quintessential villages of the surrounding area. The water temperature at between 27-28°C is particularly pleasurable for participating in water sports. During this period, temperatures are high and there is a large amount of sunshine, but this heat is considerably reduced by trade winds – light winds coming from the north-east. In the evening, temperatures cool off to drop to around the 23°C mark.
Even if best to go on one’s trip to Barbados during the dry season from December to April, the heat is constant all throughout the year, ensuring you will have great times on this heavenly island with its very ‘British’ charm.
