Very cold winters and very hot summers, that's the hallmark of the climate in New York. In January and February, low temperatures do not exceed 7°C, and in August, temperatures often rise to around 30°C with periodic heat waves. Rainfall is frequent due to New York’s geographic location.

New York has four distinct seasons:
In winter, from December to March, it can be very cold. January and February are the coldest months with maximum temperatures of 7°C and it is not uncommon for snow to fall. The days are not very sunny and grey skies often dominate. If you want to visit for New Year's Eve, be sure to wrap up warmly to witness the festive lights and celebrations which take place throughout the city.
In the spring between April and May, the weather begins to improve with warmer temperatures and more frequent sunshine despite some showers. Temperatures in the morning may still be cool, between 7°C and 10°C, but in the afternoon, it is not uncommon for the mercury to reach 20°C.
Summer is a hot season in New York. Temperatures in July and August can reach 30°C making visits to the city a little uncomfortable. The days are longer, so you have the chance to sightsee early in the morning or later in the evening. Often sunny, rain can occur, often during thunderstorms. Visiting during the summer is often discouraged because of the heat, but it is at this time the city is most lively. If you travel to New York in summer, remember to bring sun cream and a hat.
Autumn is often said to be the best time for exploring the "Big Apple”, particularly in September which has beautiful days without the summer heat and with fewer tourists. Sightseeing is pleasant during the day but beware the temperatures which fall rapidly in the evening. At this time of year, Central Park is a marvel. Its trees adorned with the most beautiful autumnal reds and golds.

We recommend visiting New York in May or September, with a preference for September’s mild weather scant tourists.
